Rabbit thinks he's a dog
Here's a cute story that I saw in the Daily Mail today.
**
A pet rabbit has had an identity crisis after spending too much time with the family cocker spaniel and now believes he is a dog.
The Giant Poobah rabbit - also named Poobah - has gone barking mad and spends hours cuddled up with spaniel puppy Scout in his dog basket.
He has also started rejecting his green food and will only eat treats bought for Scout - including his wet dog food.
The confused rabbit has copied Scout's behavior to such an extent that he even gets up on his hind legs and begs for snacks. But Poobah has asserted himself as top-dog in the house and is piling on the weight from all the dog biscuits he is eating.
The three-year-old rabbit first began adopting the canine behaviour after Scout was introduced to the family home in Perranporth, near Newquay, Cornwall, eight months ago.

Polar Bear Waves
**
After nearly a dozen visits to the Philadelphia Zoo, photographer Michael S. Confer had almost given up on getting a photo of swimming polar bears, but then he pulled off a stunner: an amazing shot of a polar bear named Coldilocks giving him a wave, reports the Telegraph.
A longtime member of the Philadelphia Zoo, Confer, 39, decided last year that he would try to take a photo of the polar bears swimming in their exhibit. With the magnificent bears' recent addition to the endangered species list, Confer thought the photograph would be timely. "The zoo is about 10 minutes from our house and every month, my wife and I would take our daughter for a visit," Confer explains to Paw Nation.
Once at the zoo, he'd always make a beeline for the polar bear exhibit, but Confer never saw the polar bears swim. "They're supposed to spend the majority of their life in the pool, and I can't even see 'em take a quick dip," Confer remembers. "They were always laying around sleeping."
Last November, on his 10th visit to the zoo in quest of his polar bear photograph, Confer got lucky. "I was walking away from the polar bear exhibit when I heard my wife yell my name," Confer tells Paw Nation. The photographer ran back to the polar bear exhibit, where -- finally!-- one of the polar bears had jumped into the pool.
"She [Coldilocks the polar bear] was swimming in big counter-clockwise circles around the pool," Confer says. Quickly, he placed the lens of his camera right up against the glass and began firing off shots on his camera -- about 3 to 4 frames per second. "I couldn't tilt my camera up or down, or else there would be glare from the glass," Confer explains.
The bear glided around the pool, batting at a ball and swimming in languid circles. "She'd go out of my sight and come back," says Confer. "She seemed curious and would swim back towards me."
Then Coldilocks shocked Confer with a delightful and unusual maneuver. "She swam right up, floating about four feet above in the tank, then she just let herself go and slowly dropped to the bottom of the aquarium," Confer says. "As she dropped, her left paw just slowly came up." The bear's right paw, says Confer, remained down.
Was Coldilocks really waving at the photographer? "I'm not sure if she was waving at me," says Confer. "But it sure felt like it."

Cute Picture of the Day
We've all seen the Looney Tunes version of a Tasmanian Devil... but, have you ever seen a real one? These were just born in a zoo in Australia. But, don't think you could have one as a pet. They are endangered, are the largest carnivorous marsupial, and have the strongest bite of any living mammal.

Johnny got his flu shot!
Thanks to Amy and Steve from MedPro Pharmacy in Melissa for coming in Monday morning and giving everyone their seasonal flu shots. Johnny had his done on the air and got a very cool Scooby Doo Band-Aid. He said it didn't hurt at all.
The Centers for Disease Control say the following people should get the shot.
Who Should Get Vaccinated
It is recommended by ACIP that certain people should get vaccinated each year. They are either people who are at high risk of having serious seasonal flu-related complications or people who live with or care for those at high risk for serious seasonal flu-related complications. People who should get the seasonal vaccine each year are:
1.Children aged 6 months up to their 19th birthday
2.Pregnant women
3.People 50 years of age and older
4.People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions
5.People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
6.People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including:

Laws of Attraction
Good Morning. Here is some interesting info from the John Tesh Radio Show.
Science-Based Laws of Attraction
The laws of attraction are based around science. It’s not a very romantic notion – but knowing some of the subconscious reasons we’re attracted to one person over another could help you find the love of your life. Here’s your chemistry lesson, courtesy of Women’s Health magazine.
•First off, you’re more likely to pair up with someone who’s just as attractive as you are. According to Dr. Helen Fisher, who wrote the book Why Him? Why Her?, people tend to be drawn to others on their same physical level – think Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Why? The reason isn’t very romantic – but it’s the truth: Subconsciously, we want to be successful in love. We want to pair off, and we know if we choose someone who’s on our level, we’re less likely to get rejected.
•We’re subconsciously attracted to people who have similar sounding names. Why? Dr. Kevin Hogan wrote the book Irresistible Attraction and he says it’s because we’re conditioned to like what feels familiar. So you’ll often find couples with sound-alike names, or similar initials. If you don’t, couples will often give each other sound-alike pet names. Maybe he calls her bunny and she calls him bear. That can achieve the same bonding effect.
•We’re also attracted to people who share our quirky habits. If on your first date you discover that you both love anchovies but hate mushrooms on your pizza, bam! Chemistry. Why? According to Dr. Hogan, we admire people who mirror our idiosyncrasies. We feel they understand us and it creates an instant bond.
•We’re drawn to people we want be like. We’re attracted to people who have traits we admire – but may lack. Why? Dr. Pepper Schwartz is a sociology professor at the University of Washington, and she says it’s because they keep us balanced. So a wall flower may be more attracted to a social butterfly. The positive trait that you admire in your partner often rubs off on you.
You can listen to John Tesh every night at 7pm on 97.5 KLAK.

Dallas Police Officer back in Texas
Here is a great story from our community. It is from News 8.
**
A Dallas police officer who was stuck in a Denver hospital returned home Monday night. In a story News 8 reported exclusively Friday night, Officer Alex Garcia's wife made a public appeal for help to move him the 660 miles to North Texas.
On Monday, she got her wish. The 22-year-old officer arrived at Love Field aboard a CareFlite air ambulance.
Garcia has been in intensive care at Denver's Centennial Hospital since July 8. That's when he collapsed from severe dehydration and several blood clots in his brain during a police conference in Colorado.
Garcia underwent there surgeries. The officer wanted to come home, but the city's insurance carrier, UnitedHealthcare, would not cover it because it wasn't considered an emergency.
Bonham Chrysler dealer Eugene Kneis saw the News 8 story Friday night and called the station, asking how he could help.
Kneis donated $7,500 for the air ambulance flight. The McKinney man said he watched Garcia's return home with great joy.
"It gives me a warm feeling, but I understand what the officer has to go through now for his recuperation,” Kneis said. “I hope people don't forget him after this, because there's a lot of expenses that need to be paid.”
Garcia's commanding officer said that while he doesn't know how long Garcia will be in the hospital, he does know that being home will make it easier for him and for his family.

Want Fries With That Shake?
Hello there and Happy Wednesday.
I love ice cream and I love shakes... but, I might have to skip this one. There is a list of the 10 worst drinks in America. Here is number one.
**
1. WORST DRINK IN AMERICA
Baskin-Robbins Large Chocolate Oreo Shake
2,600 calories
135 g fat (59 g saturated fat, 2.5 g trans fat)
263 g sugars
1,700 mg sodium
Is this the worst drink on the planet? All signs point to yes. First off, it has an ingredient list that reads like an organic chemistry final. Those 70-plus ingredients conspire to pack this shake with more sugar than 29 Fudgsicles, as much fat as a stick and a half of butter, and more calories than 48 actual Oreos. Oh, it also has 3 days’ worth of saturated fat and, most bizarre of all, as much salt as you’ll find in 9 bags of Lay’s Classic potato chips. Need more proof? Let’s hope not.
**
Sounds delicious though! Maybe I could share it with Maria and Johnny.

McKinney is Growing
Here is an article I just read at cnn.com about fast growing cities in the US. There are a few mentions of McKinney.
**The Big Easy is making a big comeback. New Orleans has steadily won back some of the population it lost in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, according to a government report released Wednesday.
New Orleans lost more than half its residents during the deluge. Few large U.S. cities have ever had to cope with a disaster on that scale. Since then, it has been one of the country's fastest growing cities.
Only a couple of instances can compare. Galveston, Texas, was also devastated by a hurricane in 1900, a storm that remains the most lethal natural disaster in U.S. history with a toll of about 6,000 deaths. And San Francisco was almost leveled by the earthquake and fire of 1906.
New Orleans is now growing rapidly. Its population is up 8.2% in the 12 months that ended July 1, 2008, gaining 23,740 people to 311,853, according to the Census Bureau. That still leaves it well below its pre-storm population of 484,674.
For sheer numerical increase, New York City trumped the birthplace of jazz. During the same 12-month period, Gotham added nearly 53,500 residents, more than any other city. That represented a growth rate of only 0.6%.
Following New York City were Phoenix, which added 33,184 residents (2.1%) to a total of 1,567,924, and Houston, up 33,063 to 2,242,193 (1.5%).
The top percentage winners, after New Orleans, were Round Rock, Texas, part of the Austin metropolitan area, which grew by 8.2% to 104,446; Cary, N.C., which gained 6.9% to 129,545; and Gilbert, Ariz., which swelled by 5% to 216,449.
New York retained its position as the largest U.S. city by far. Its nearly 8.4 million folks crammed into 303 square miles is more than twice the number of people who live in sprawling Los Angeles, the nation's second biggest city with 3,833,995 people.
Chicago, once the nation's second city, has fallen nearly a million behind Los Angeles with 2,853,114.
Most old Midwestern and Northeastern cities have shrunk in population since World War II as heavy industry waned in importance to the overall economy. Much of the growth in these areas occurred in suburban towns and were not counted in central city population figures.
Meanwhile, many Sun Belt towns exploded with growth as job opportunities in new technology industries proliferated. Northerners, including retirees, also moved south and west, lured by the warmer winters and relaxed life styles.
Among old-line cities, New York has been one of the few to buck this trend. In the years since the last census in 2000, it has gained 355,056 residents, a substantial gain and more than the total number of people who live in St. Louis.
The highest rate of growth since 2000 was reported by McKinney, Texas, which more than doubled to 121,211 from 54,369. Gilbert, Ariz., was second with an 88.7% jump to 216,449.
Few losers
Of the 25 largest cities, only a handful experienced population loss.
Detroit, suffering from the turmoil in the auto industry, fell 0.5% to 912,062. The population of Philadelphia dipped slightly to 1,447,395 from 1.446,631. Baltimore dropped 0.5% to 636,919 and Memphis fell at about the same percentage rate to 660,651.
There have been some changes this year to the 25 largest cities.
For one thing, Denver moved into 24th place with 598,707 residents. It replaced Nashville, which dropped out of the top 25.
In addition, Dallas (1,279,910) edged past San Diego (1,279,329) to eighth place from ninth. San Francisco also moved up to 12th place; its population (808,976) surpassed Jacksonville (807,815).
And Austin (757,688) blew past Columbus (754,885) to 15th. Charlotte (687,456) leapfrogged Memphis (669,651) to 18th and El Paso (613,190) passed Boston (609,023) to 21st.

Tips from John Tesh
John Tesh's website always has some interesting facts. www.tesh.com
Did you know that most people LIE on their online dating profile?
Here is the story:
Most Online Daters Lie
Here’s the hard truth about online daters: Most of them lie. I’m not talking about the bad apples that prey on innocent people, or the scoundrels looking to cheat on their spouse. I’m talking about the average online dater. Here are the details, from the oldest continuously published magazine in the U.S., Scientific American:
•When researchers at Boston University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology surveyed online daters, 1 in 5 said they lied to improve their profile. When the scientists crunched the numbers, the figure was closer to 9 out of 10.
•So, what’s everyone trying to hide? Their appearance. In a study done by Cornell University that checked actual height and weight against profile height and weight, the average person said they were five pounds lighter and an inch taller.
•Ladies, some guys lie about more than their waistline. They lie about their income, their education, and unfortunately, their availability. A University of Chicago study estimates that 13% of the men on dating sites are married.
•Women are much less likely to lie about being married - but in addition to their weight, they do often get creative with their age.
What’s this mean to you? Well, first of all, you should take online profiles with a grain of salt. According to Yvonne Rice, author of Finding The One: A Powerful Step-by-Step Guide to Making Online Dating Work for You, other people’s lies create opportunities for honest daters. She believes being honest in your profile attracts people who are frustrated with finding out that their online dream date is a nightmare in person. Also, telling it like it is saves time, and weeds out people you aren’t compatible with. Plus, when you do meet the right person, your honesty will help establish that all important part of a relationship – trust.

Save Money on Concert Tickets
If you are buying concert tickets this summer, check this out...
Live Nation, the world's largest concert promoter, is giving cash-strapped fans something to sing about.
Starting a minute after midnight Tuesday (12:01 a.m. Wednesday), the company will waive service fees for 24 hours on more than 5 million lawn tickets for amphitheater events ticketed by LiveNation.com. That typically will save ticket buyers about $10 off what are already the cheapest seats available.
The promotion will continue throughout the summer with a variety of "No Service Fee Wednesday" specials. Blink-182, Coldplay, Nickelback, Toby Keith, The Killers, Rascal Flatts and The Dead are among the touring acts included.

What does mom really want?
Don't forget that Sunday is Mother's Day. I found this list that a mom put together. She polled all of her friends and this is what they really want.
*Sleeping late was the clear winner
Make mom a meal (or two). Breakfast in bed was most popular, but it depends on the woman. If she is the type who wouldn’t laugh over spilled coffee, then it’s best to pick something else.
Insist that she take the day off. Walk the dog, take out the trash, or take on any of mom’s regular chores.
Accompany mom to her favorite places without complaining. Some ideas: take a bike ride, pack a picnic, go on a long walk, visit a museum, or bring her to a movie of her choice.
Let her take an afternoon nap or curl up with a novel.
Make her a card. For older children, write her a poem or a letter. My friend Ellyn had a terrific idea:
“If I could have anything in the world, what I'd love most is a long handwritten letter from each of my children (21 and 19) about what they are thinking, feeling, and looking forward to at this point in their lives.”
Give her a homemade gift certificate for four weekends of dog walking, family dinner out the first Sunday of every month, or family supplied tech support on demand for a year. *
Have a great day.

Are you a Texan?
Howdy Y'all!
Today we talked about how to tell if you are from Texas. We had listeners help us come up with a list and also found a couple funny ones online.
Listeners told us that if you are a true Texan, you have an armadillo somewhere in your house: a stuffed animal, cooking mit, salt n pepper shaker... something!
One listener said that Texans like to use the phrase "bless her heart" when talking about someone who did something stupid.
Here is a list of a few more funny ones we found.
Thanks for listening!

Tastes Like Chicken
Hello there.
Did you hear that Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson ate dog biscuits on a German TV Show last week. I challenged Johnny to eat one. If he would eat a dog treat, I promised to not make fun of him on the air for the rest of the year.
This morning I was totally surprised... He ate it! So, I'm not allowed to tease him anymore. Luckily, Maria said she'd pick up the slack for me.

Bring Some Change on Your Next Flight
Did you read this story about airlines trying to make some extra money? They want to start charging people to use the bathroom. Here is a copy-
Irish carrier Ryanair, Europe's largest budget airline, might start charging passengers for using the toilet while flying, chief executive Michael O'Leary said on Friday.
"One thing we have looked at in the past and are looking at again is the possibility of maybe putting a coin slot on the toilet door so that people might actually have to spend a pound to spend a penny in future," he told BBC television.
O'Leary has a reputation as a cost cutter, expanding Ryanair by offering low headline fares and charging extra for items such as additional luggage.
Last week, Ryanair announced it was to shut all check-in desks at airports and have passengers check in online instead.
"We're all about finding ways of raising discretionary revenue so we can keep lowering the cost of air travel," he said.
Have a great weekend.

Wanna Buy a Cave?
Hello there. I'm back! I was sick all last week and I'm still trying to get caught up with email and the blog.
Here's a great story about a family that actually lives in a cave in Missouri. They are selling it because they can't afford the mortgage. Can you imagine living in a cave?
Have you seen Johnny B lately? He's losing weight. So far he's lost 18 pounds with the Metabolic Research Center. Send him an email and ask him about his program.
