Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween! Are you wearing a costume right now while reading this? Me neither. I was just too tired this morning to put anything together. I am dressed as a tired radio DJ... jeans, running shoes, polo shirt.

Of course we talked about CANDY today. Here is the top selling candy for Halloween.
1.Reeses Peanut Butter Cups
2.snickers
3.kitkat
4.butterfinger
5.milky way

My faves are M&M's and 3 Musketeers. Johnny loves Laffy Taffy, 3 Musketeers, and Starburst.

Congrats to our Teacher of the Month, Amanda Tabor from Marion Elementary in Allen ISD. She stopped by this morning and picked up her plaque and $500 prize.

Sabrina Bryan was kicked off Dancing with the Stars last night. It was a big shock b/c she was actually very good. I wonder who is next. Who is voting for Marie Osmond? Stop it, will ya?

Remember to watch out for all the little ghouls and goblins tonight. Be safe.

Carrie is learning about Nascar

Good Morning everyone. Thanks for stopping by the blog. Sorry I didn't get to it yesterday.

Today's DUH headline is from the state of Texas:

--Report by state criticizes excess of reports by state--
-The Texas State Library and Archives Commission is declaring there are too many state reports. It says so in a 668-page report.- Seems like a waste of paper doesn't it?

This morning we gave away another pair of tickets to the NASCAR event at the Texas Motor Speedway this weekend. Congrats to Bob for knowing that the white flag means there is one more lap to go.

Also, Johnny thought that since I am new to Nascar, I should have a favorite driver. After much discussion, my new favorite car is the #96 car. I chose it b/c it is blue. Also b/c it is partialy owned by Troy Aikman. And b/c the sponsor is DLP HDTV. These are all things that I love. I really don't get into this sport, but, I've been learning a lot since moving to Texas.

If you want to win more tickets, listen to Scott K tomorrow afternoon between 2-7pm.

We also talked to Ty Lake with Downtown McKinney this morning. She told us all about Scare on the Square. Check out this link for details.

Also big news story from the Garden State. It is apparently safe to eat squirrels in New Jersey again. Just another reason NOT to visit New Jersey. Here's the story.

On that note... Have a wonderful day. We'll be back tomorrow morning for our Halloween Show. Which only means that we are going to be eating candy all morning.

Getting Ready for Halloween

Good Morning. Yay. It isn't raining this morning! This makes us very happy.

We talked about costumes this morning. The ones our parents made from scratch. Maria's parents put a plastic Frankenstein mask on her and threw a sheet over her clothes. She wasn't too happy about it. I always had to wear my winter coat over my costumes b/c I grew up in chilly Nebraska. Johnny's Dad made a great hunchback costume for him, but, he used his Mom's good pillows! Mom wasn't happy at all.

Here is the list of most popular costumes for kids and adults according the National Retailers Association.
Top Kids' Costumes
1. Princess
2. Witch
3. Spiderman
4. Monster
5. Darth Vader
Top Adults' Costumes
1. Witch
2. Vampire
3. Actor/Famous Person
4. Monster
5. Pirate

Put together a costume for your kids and bring them to the Halloween at the Heard party with us on Saturday night. More info at www.heardmuseum.org

Just a reminder, we are postponing our Bridesmaids against Breast Cancer event that was planned for tomorrow night. We had a bunch of groups and organizations that wanted to be involved so we are moving the date. Keep listening for more details.

Did you see Marie Osmond faint during the LIVE broadcast of Dancing with the Stars last night? She was okay after ABC cut to commercial and is planning to continue.

So, what city do you think has the most attractive people? Which city has the least attractive people? Here is the list from Travel and Leisure magazine.
1. Miami
2. San Diego
3. Charleston
4. Austin
5. Honolulu
6. L.A.
7. San Fran
8. Minneapolis
9. New York
10. Denver

Check out the full list at Travel and Leisure's website.

Okay, time to go. Please join us again tomorrow. Have a great day.

Why do Men do the things they do?

This morning we came up with a list of Weird Things that Men Do. See if you agree.

1. Cycling with no hands
2. Throwing food in the air and catching it in their mouths
3. Treating their cars like people
4. Constantly quoting The Godfather and Scarface
5. Nicknaming all their friends. ie Fat Tony, Big Scott, Scrappy...
(B's friend calls him B-Nice. Maria's husband's friends call him Syd Justice)
6. Using hair gel (notice picture of Ross Geller-Hair Gel King of the 90's)
7. Carrying a big bunch of keys on their keychain. Most don't go to anything.

I am sure there are more that you could come up with.

We also talked about the cool exhibit at the Heard Museum in McKinney. It is Dinosaurs Alive. You can see 12 animatronic dinosaurs! Fun for everyone. Check out www.heardmuseum.org
Join Scott K there on Sunday from 1-3pm. He will bring along some great prizes and you can wish him a Happy Birthday. I can't believe we are making him work on his birthday. Sorry Scott.

Join Johnny B at Market Street on Saturday from 10-Noon. It is their Fall Festival. You can win prizes and get everything you need for Halloween.

Then Saturday afternoon I'll be at Roundup On The Range from 1-3:00. Look for us near the arena at Myers Park and Events Center. This great event benefits the Volunteer Center of McKinney. The Chuck Wagon lunch is from Noon-1:30. I'm going to load up on the biscuits.

If you are heading to the McKinney Boyd vs. McKinney North game tonight we'll see you out front for our tailgate party from 5-7pm at Ron Poe Stadium. We'll have food from Domino's of McKinney.

Enjoy the weekend. Be safe. See you all Monday morning.

On the Road

Good Morning everyone. Thanks for checking out the ol' blog today.

Johnny and I had a fun day doing our show from the road today. We were at Saxby's Coffee House in a Chrysler Town & Country from El Dorado Motors. We set up the laptop and the equipment in the minivan and had a great time. The picture on the blog is what the backseat looks like. Just imagine 2 morning dj's in there!

Thanks to Saxby's for getting me hooked on White Chocolate Mocha Frolattes!! And I think Johnny drank so much coffee this morning that he won't be sleeping until the weekend.

We really appreciate everyone who stopped by to say hello. It was nice to get out of the office for a day.

Hey have you signed up for the loyal listener club yet? You still have time to get in on the Maroon 5 tickets. Just go to www.975klak.com and get registered. We are going to draw the lucky winner on Monday the 22nd.

Have a great day. We'll be back tomorrow morning at 5:30.

Opposites Attract?

Hey there. Well, a very foggy day this morning. Johnny even missed the turn into 7/11 on his way to work.

We talked about couples that have very different interests. Maria's husband loves haunted houses, she won't go near them. One listener told us that her husband loves to sit around the house in his tighty whities... she does not!

Our Mexican Vacation winner stopped by today. Stephanie Gibson from Durant won a trip for two to Riviera Maya Mexico thanks to Apple Vacations. She has four kids and is really looking forward to a getaway with her husband.

Did you read the story about the woman who was spying on her cheating husband and got trapped under an SUV? Here it is.

Tomorrow please join us at Saxby's Coffee on Virginia Parkway for our show. We are taking it on the road. Stop by for 97 cent regular coffee. We will also have some prizes to win.

Also, ladies remember to dig out those old bridesmaid dresses and donate them to us. We are raising money for the American Cancer Society. Details are at www.975klak.com
Have a great day.

See ya tomorrow.

Stop! In the Name of Love

Howdy folks. Welcome to the blog. Thanks for stopping by.

Today we gave away tickets to Beehive at the MPAC in downtown McKinney. It was a fun round of Singing B. He sang 60's songs and listeners had to finish the lyric to get the tickets. He did "Downtown" by Petula Clark, "Respect" by Aretha Franklin and "Stop in the name of love" by the Supremes. Congrats to our winners.
We will have more tickets tomorrow morning.

Shelly Russell from CASA of Collin County also stopped by to tell us about their fundraising gala. It will feature a silent auction, dinner and entertainment from Pat Green. For more info click here.

Your Computer Never Thinks You Look Fat

Hello.

Today Johnny and I read some interesting facts about Americans' love of computers. According to a survey, 64% of the people asked say they spend more time with their computer than they do with their significant other. Maria actually admitted to LOVING her Mac. And we both agreed that having a reset button on Johnny would be amazing! Here is a link to the story.

We also found this funny list.

Top Five Reasons Computers Are Male

5. They have a lot of data but are still clueless.

4. A better model is always just around the corner.

3. They look nice and shinny until you bring them home.

2. It is always necessary to have a backup.

1. They'll do whatever you say if you push the right buttons.

How about them Cowboys?! Johnny and I were both too tired to stay up and watch last night's game. We were shocked to read this morning that they came back and won it!

In honor of the win, we played some Cowboys trivia and gave away gift cards to Saxby's Coffee. Here were the questions:

What college did Tony Romo go to?
How many Superbowls did the Cowboys win between 1970-2000?
(keep reading to see the answers)

The KLAK birthday club is still going strong and we have a new sponsor. You can now win a gift certificate to Baskin Robbins of Collin County each day at 6:40. Just send us your birthday info (name, address, phone, birthdate) and if we draw your name, you win! Send me an email. carrie@975klak.com Nominate yourself, your kids, friends, loved ones, etc...

So, did you get the trivia questions correct? Tony Romo went to Eastern Illinois University. The Cowboys won 5 Superbowls between 1970-2000.

Have a great day.

One Monkey Latte Please

Good Morning friends. Thanks for stopping by the blog.

Today we gave away some more gift cards to Saxby's Coffee in McKinney. We gave you 3 items and you had to decide which one was NOT on the menu at Saxby's.
Monkey Latte
British Islander
Kookie Monster

The Monkey Latte is just a made up drink that Johnny wants to invent. Congrats to our winners today.

It is also a big rivalry weekend. UT and OU play tomorrow in the Red River Rivalry and tonight is the crosstown showdown. We will be at the McKinney High vs. McKinney North game tonight. Look for us outside the gates between 5-7. Monte Walker calls the game for us at 7:00. Listen to 97.5 KLAK for all the action.

Did you hear about Mr. Potato Head and the drug bust in Australia. Someone tried to smuggle 10 ounces of Ecstacy into the country by hiding the tablets inside a Mr.Potato Head toy. Customs officials didn't find this too funny.

Johnny is trying to convince me to watch Pee Wee's Big Adventure. It's one movie that I have never wanted to see. Maybe if I ever get caught up on the new Fall TV Shows that I have recorded, I will watch it.

Look for KLAK in Grayson County on Saturday. Scott K will be at the Sherman Wine and Music Festival from 4-6pm. He will have prizes for you to win.
Johnny will be at Adventure Kids Playcare on Sunday from 1-4pm. If you can get him to stop playing for a few minutes, you can win prizes from him too.

Hope you have a great weekend. Make sure you listen Monday for the first chance to get registered for the trip for two to Mexico. Details are on the mainpage of www.975klak.com

Be Safe. Carrie

Christmas in October

Hi everyone. It was like Christmas today in the studio. Our singing B featured some holiday music. Johnny sang Blue Christmas and the first person to finish the lyric when he stopped won tickets to The Blue Man Group in Dallas on Sunday. He also sang Blue Moon. Congrats to our two lucky winners today.

We also shared some "new ideas about love" this morning. There is a great article on Oprah.com about the 8 new ideas about love. You can check it out here.

Did you hear that American Gladiators is coming back to t.v.? I used to love this show. People would compete against the "professional gladiators" in silly athletic contests like the obstacle course. Hulk Hogan is going to be the host and it will air on NBC.

There is an Alabama couple who just celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary!! They got married when he was 17 and she was just 14. When asked what the secret to a happy marriage is... they said hard farm work and vegetables. uh, what? Well, they are almost 100 years old. Maybe they misheard the question.

Tomorrow we have more gift certificates to Saxby's Coffee. Listen for your chance to win. And it's Friday Night Lights time! Our spotlight game of the week is McKinney High at McKinney North and we have a bunch of tickets to give away.

Have a wonderful day.

Patriots vs. the Pigeons

Hello! Greetings from the Morning Show Office.

Did you watch Monday Night Football last night? Did you notice the pigeon problem that the Bengals stadium has? We read a story today about the team officials wanting to SHOOT the pigeons! Luckily the SPCA stepped in and offered a few less lethal ways of clearing out the birds. With the way the Bengals are playing, maybe the pigeons should put on helmets and join the team.

The Patriots won the game by the way and Johnny's Mom, the Swami Mommy, is now 1-3 for the season

This morning we talked about this ridiculous story from North Carolina. A man bought a used smoker and found a human leg in it! The man who "lost" the leg now wants it back. They are now fighting over custody of it. Only in America my friends.

We played "coffee trivia" today and gave away gift cards to Saxby's Coffee on Virginia Parkway in McKinney. Since I know NOTHING about coffee, we had people call in with trivia questions to test my lack of knowledge. If they stumped me, they won! Everyone was a winner today. Except me.

We'll give away more gift cards tomorrow with the Singing B.

Andrea Allen will also join us tomorrow for a chat about kids and credit cards. Listen at 7:20.

Have a great day.

Carrie
