Friday, Sep 28 from the Intern Perspective

Happy Friday. It's Carrie and I am tired. What a week. Since I don't feel like writing the blog today, I am making our intern do it! Take it away Mikey...

Hello everyone, this is Mike the Intern blogging his way through friday morning.
You might have heard me talking about Halo 3 on B and Carrie in the morning.

The morning started off nice, waking up at 5:00 in the morning. Of course I had to remember to bring my master chief replica helmet from Halo 3. Within ten minutes of hanging out with B and Carrie, they had me perform a sacred ritual that each intern must perform if they are to sit in with the morning crew. They made me get breakfast.

They really sprang the whole "interview the resident nerd about Halo" thing when I first came in this morning. As with everything it all boiled down to "How much is it going to cost me as a parent?"

We found out today that a West Virgina woman had her ninth child while going sixty miles an hour down a highway. The child, "Carley" as she was named by her parents, was not born in a hospital for no other reason than the father of the child just had to make his coffee and get the kids to the bus stop for the morning.

Johnny B and Carrie also went through a few of the top 100 overrated people, places and things, they also had a few items of their own to supplement the list. Johnny suggested processed cheese, other people who shall remain nameless *cough* Maria *cough* mentioned that Halo 3 was overrated. We shall see, Maria.

Mr. David Taylor stopped by and spoke about the McKinney Performing Arts Center, formerly the historic Collin County Courthouse. He told us of a great musical that he managed to pull a showing to McKinney, Beehive. He was very excited to have the actual New York production company that started the production tour, swing by McKinney for a one night showing.

Thanks Mike. Now go wash my truck.

Have a great weekend. Carrie

17 pounds?!

Hey friends! Another fun show this morning. If you didn't have a chance to listen, I will fill you in.

Did you read about the Siberian woman who had a 17 pound baby? And this was her 12th kid. I wonder if she'll have a 13th. All of you moms out there are probably glad your babies were not that big.

The latest celebrity rumor is that Michael Jackson is married! This is very hard to believe. Word is that he married his children's longtime nanny in secret. If I was married to MJ, I would also want it to be a secret.

We told you about the Mexican Vacation Giveaway today. Go to www.975klak.com for all the details.
Starting Monday October 8th we will get people registered for the trip for two. We'll also be giving away gift certificates to Petra Mexican Restaurant in McKinney. Make sure you sign up for the Loyal Listener Club too. It's another way to win.

Our guest this morning was Texas Tornado Coach Dwight Mullins. He's pumped up and ready for the season to begin. The home opener is tomorrow night at 7:30 at the Dr. Pepper Star Center in Frisco. Get tickets at www.tornadohockey.com
Johnny B will be there. He'll be the freak yelling during the whole game.

Join us tomorrow morning at 5:30. Have a great day.

Who gets the ring?

Hello campers. Thanks for stopping by the blog.

This morning we talked about a court case in Tennessee that discussed who gets the engagement ring if the marriage doesn't happen. The judge ruled in favor of the man who bought the ring.

Maria and I agreed with the court ruling. Johnny was more interested in who gets the XBox? We decided that the couple would have to play the game and the winner would get to take it!

Maria and I also have put our initials on our cd's so that we know who gets what if a relationship fails. You can see where our priorities are.

We had our first Teacher of the Month Winner today. Congrats to Israel Martinez who teaches at Davis Elementary in Royce City. Mr. Martinez gets $500 and a plaque to put in his classroom from Pat Lobb Toyota of McKinney and Prosper Bank. If you want some more info on Teacher of the Month-go to www.975klak.com

Maria is a huge fan of The Mavs and owner Mark Cuban. He is on Dancing with The Stars this season. Maria sent me a link to a funny video of a dancing Mark Cuban doll. There are some bleeps in it so, I won't post the link, but you can probably google it.

Tomorrow we will be talking to Tornado Hockey head coach Dwight Mullins at 8:20.

Don't forget to sign up for the Loyal Listener Club on the mainpage of www.975klak.com This month's prize is a pair of tickets to see Maroon 5 at the Ft. Worth Convention Center on October 27th.

Have a great day.

Fried Food? I'M THERE!

Howdy folks. Welcome to the KLAK morning show blog. So, this morning we talked about the Texas State Fair.

Johnny and I are going for the first time ever. We are Fair Newbies. We had listeners give us the skinny on going to the fair.

Some important things to remember: Pace yourself. Wear comfortable shoes.

I'm going to make sure to try the Fried Cookie Dough this year. And I want to check out the Pig Races!

Did you hear about the Cubs fans who named their child Wrigley Fields?! How do you know this kid will even like the Cubs! I guess it could be worse. Most baseball stadiums are sponsored. If the parents were Seattle Mariner fans he would be named Safeco Fields. Or Chicago White Sox fans, US Cellular Fields.

We updated our Star vs. Star league today. Maria was on vacation last week and had to add alot of points. Our listener Amanda now has 155 because of all Britney's newsmaking last week. I have 96 and Johnny B has 147.

We checked in with Johnny's mom, the Swami Mommy. She's 0-2 picking Monday Night Football winners. Today she chose the New Orleans Saints b/c she likes the song "when the saints go marching in." Listen every Monday morning at 8:40 for the Swami Mommy. She really is alot of fun.

Have a great Monday. Be safe.

The Purple Singing B

Hey everyone. Happy Thursday.

Today we gave away tickets to see Hinder at the Nokia Theater. It was another exciting round of the Singing B. Today I picked all Prince songs for B to sing.
Congrats to Toni and to Carol.

We also talked about a few tv shows today. I get very excited when the Fall TV Season begins. I was really happy with the premiere of Back To You, starring Patricia Heaton and Kelsey Grammer. It was smart and funny and I laughed out loud many times.

I also loved yesterday's Oprah. Justin Timberlake, Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire all performed. Oprah tried to get Justin to talk about his ex Britney, but, he wasn't saying much. He was a total gentleman about it and simply said that she is a good person with a good heart.

Speaking of Brit, did you see that KFED may have a fulltime job!? He did a guest spot on One Tree Hill and the rumor is that they liked him so much he's going to be a regular on the show. I used to like that show.

Hey tomorrow we're gonna talk about Men's Annoying Habits. And I guess to be fair we'll do Women's Annoying Habits too.

See ya then.

Get Some Sleep

Greetings friends. So, how is your Wednesday going? Just keep thinking about Friday, right?

Today we talked about thieves that fell asleep while robbing places! There was a man in Turkey who fell asleep while trying to break into an ATM machine. A drunk guy who fell asleep while the bank teller was putting money into the bag during his hold-up, and many, many more. People just need to get more sleep before doing crime!

I also admitted to actually being so tired that I drove right past my own house. And it's happened more than once.

Did you see the story about the Dallas City Councilman that wants to make saggy pants illegal!? A similar ordinance is already in effect in a few places. Louisiana and New Jersey cities have banned droopy drawers.

When Maria gets back from vacation we'll have to update our points for Star vs. Star. Britney and KFed made major headlines this week and Maria needs to award many points. Britney has to undergo random drug testing now as part of her custody battle. Maybe there's still a chance for those little kids...

Tomorrow you can win tickets to Hinder during our Singing B! Be listening around 7:20 for your first chance to finish a lyric sung by Johnny B. Hinder, Papa Roach and Buckcherry perform Friday night at the Nokia Theater.

Join Johnny this morning at Market Street in McKinney from 11-1:00. He will have a bunch of prizes and lunch specials too.

We'll be back tomorrow morning. Later. Carrie

Teen Crush

This morning we started talking about our teen crushes. Johnny was in love with Maureen McCormack (Marcia Brady) and Annette from Mickey Mouse Club. I admitted that my crush was Ralph Macchio... yes, the Karate Kid. I loved his character in The Outsiders and was so sad when he died. (His character, not Ralph)

Listeners called in with their crushes: Valerie Bertinelli, Shaun Cassidy, Davy Jones, and even The Fonz!

We also found a list of skills that every man should know. It's from Popular Mechanics. These are things that every man should know how to do.
1. Patch a radiator hose
2. Frame a wall
3. Build a campfire
4. Back up a trailer
5. Navigate with a map and compass
6. Perform CPR
7. Fillet a fish
8. Change oil and filter
9. Fix a bike flat
10. Paddle a canoe

How many things can you do on the list? Johnny can do 7 of those!

It is football night. Listen to KLAK for the spotlight game of the week, Forney at McKinney North. Monte Walker will call the game starting at 7:00.
McKinney Boyd won last night. McKinney High plays at Richardson.

Join me today at Red River Autoplex in Denison from 4-6pm.
Look for Johnny tomorrow at El Dorado Motors Mazda store from 10-Noon.

We will be back Monday morning. We'll be drawing a winner for the Texas Tornado Home Opener at 7:20. Get registered for the KLAK Loyal Listener club to enter. www.975klak.com
Johnny's mom will also be back. The Swami Mommy will choose her pick for Monday Night Football at 8:40.

Have a great weekend. Be Safe.

Men and Monkeys

Hi campers. Thanks for stopping by the blog today.

Today we talked about a study that Johnny found on the internet. So, you can choose to believe it or not. According to Duke University, men are biologically compelled to stare at beautiful women. It is true for rhesus monkeys and the researchers believe that men are hardwired to act the same way. Johnny thinks that b/c of this study it's "okay for men to look." I am sure his girlfriend has an opinion that isn't the same!

Maria and I told him that women look too, we are just quicker and smarter about it.

If you have trouble sleeping, you aren't alone. Johnny and I both wish we could just get a good 8 hour's worth of sleep each night. Here are some tips from the Sleep Institute. (I want to work there!)

1. Maintain a regular bed and wake time schedule including weekends.
This is impossible. We are not going to get up at 3:30 on a Saturday morning.

2. Establish a regular, relaxing bedtime routine such as soaking in a hot bath or hot tub and then reading a book or listening to soothing music.
Well, that sounds great... don't know if it will actually happen though.

3. Create a sleep-conducive environment that is dark, quiet, comfortable and cool.

4. Sleep on a comfortable mattress and pillows.

5.. Finish eating at least 2-3 hours before your regular bedtime.
This is also very difficult to do. Especially if you have kids.

6.. Exercise regularly. It is best to complete your workout a few hours
before bedtime.

This is only hard for me b/c I'm so lazy and hate the gym.

7. Avoid caffeine (e.g. coffee, tea, soft drinks, chocolate) close to bedtime. It can keep you awake.
No more Jack and Cokes for Johnny

8. Avoid alcohol close to bedtime.

9/11 Memorial

Hello blog readers. Today is the 6th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. McKinney hosted a memorial service at 9:00 this morning. Thanks to Assistant Fire Chief Frank Roma, Fire Chief Mark Wallace, Police Chief Doug Kowalski and everyone who participated.

It was a very moving ceremony that brought tears to my eyes a few times. Especially when the New York Firefighters and New York City Police officers were pointed out. They joined our local men and women today at the event. Their work after the attacks was much appreciated. I had a chance to talk with one police officer who responded that morning and I was shaking while he described the scene that day. True Heroes.

It was a day for the community to come together and remember. And as the Fire Chief said numerous times, "we must never forget."

If you see someone today who contributes to our safety and the safety and freedom of our country... tell them Thank You.

Hello Texas

Hey there. So, this morning I got to talk to Johnny B's Mom for the first time. She's a wonderful woman. Whenever Johnny calls her on the phone she always answers with "hello Texas!" And she calls him Johnny B. That's so cute. She also told me that she "might have" dropped him as a baby! classic.

Mrs. B. joins us every Monday to give us her pick for Monday Night Football at 8:40. We call it the Swami Mommy. Today she chose the Baltimore Ravens b/c they are her hometown team. Since she will be asleep by the time the 2nd Monday Night game starts, we didn't get her pick on the 49ers-Cardinals game.

We also talked about birth order today and what being First Born, Middle or Last Born says about your personality. Johnny is the baby of his family. I'm the middle. See if any of these traits fit you.

The First Born

It has been shown that first borns talk and walk before children who are born later. As first borns grow up, these precocious abilities remain: they are the ones who go on to succeed in the world. They get higher grades in school and have higher leadership and achievement traits. They are conscientious, organized, dependable, accommodating, and persistent.

The Middle Child (or Second Born)

Middle children can have many contradictory characteristics, but one common thread seems to hold true: their personalities are usually the opposite of those of the first borns. If the first born is a loner, the next born will have numerous friends. If the first born is ambitious, the second born may be more laid back.

Second borns or middle children are often very sociable and they become good mediators. They learn the art of negotiation and compromise. They are generally free-spirited, independent and sometimes rebellious.

The Last Born (baby in the family)

the last born gets an abundance of attention and is often the target of jokes. Last children grow up with ambivalence, lauded with attention one minute and joked about the next. They are accused of being spoiled, the ones who get everything the other siblings never had. This results in some impetuous behaviors, a tendency to want things immediately. They can become "clowns," seeking attention with no real worries about the consequences. The last born child is often described as sociable, charming, loving, and open, but also as temperamental, irresponsible, and self-centered.

Only Children?
Only children can carry the characteristics of both first borns and last borns. They frequently find themselves with fewer social skills for dealing with their peers. Because they identify so closely with the values of their parents, they relate better as they grow up with people far older or younger. Only children grow up with a great deal of recognition from their parents and they tend to be responsible, ambitious and perfectionistic.

We also updated our Star vs. Star points. Because of Britney's total trainwreck last night on the VMA's, our listener Amanda got 10 more points. She now leads the game.

Tomorrow is the anniversary of 9/11/01. There is a ceremony at 9:00am at the McKinney Public safety building on Taylor-Burk Dr. I will be there at 8:00. Everyone is invited to stop by. The Fire Chief, and Police Chief will speak, there will be a moment of silence, and a bagpiper, bugler and 21-gun salute. All the details are also on the website in the EVENTS section. www.975klak.com

Have a wonderful day. Thanks for checking out the blog.

What did you miss today on the show?

Well campers. We made it to Friday. It was nice having Monday off.

Today we updated the Star vs Star game. Amanda, our listener, got points for Britney's announcement that she is opening the MTV VMA awards in Las Vegas. She also got points for Angelina Jolie enrolling Maddoxx in school in New York.
Lindsay Lohan and her dad got together at Rehab so, Johnny got some points. I got a few points because Paris told the world that she is getting her body ready to have a baby next year! WHAT?! Here are the point totals:

Amanda-105
Carrie-86
Johnny- 107

If you are going to the McKinney High game tonight please stop by our KLAK table and say hello. Johnny and I will both be there tailgating with Chick-Fil-A before the game. Look for us between 5-7.

Tomorrow morning I'll be at Pat Lobb Toyota from 10-Noon. It's on 75 South, Exit 39 in McKinney. You can get food from Applebee's, free Latte's and your kids can get a free ID from the McKinney Police Dept. Plus the bounce houses will be up and ready to go.

Congrats to Shanon at Liberty National in McKinney. She faxed in an entry for lunch bunch and won free lunch for her office on Monday. Johnny and I will deliver lunch from Panera Bread. Get your faxes in now for next week. (972) 838-1330

We also talked about Cell Phone mishaps this morning. Many people have dropped theirs in toilets, bathtubs, lakes... One listener this morning dropped his in a bucket of paint!! and it still worked. Another woman's husband forgot to check the pockets before doing laundry and her cell went through the wash. It didn't survive.
Maria was probably wishing her cell didn't work this morning, b/c it started ringing while we on the air!! Oops.

Have a great weekend. We will be back Monday morning at 5:30.

Welcome to B-Town

Howdy bloggers. I am sorry it has been so long.

We got really busy around here. We are installing some new software in the studio and have been in training sessions. I am not the smartest computer user in the world so, it has been alot of banging my head against the monitor for me!

Today on the show we talked about the McKinney city council passing the smoking ban. Then we came up with city ordinances we would add to our own towns. BTown for Johnny and Carrieville for me.

B- You must use your turn signals
You can't go thru the express lane with more than 10 items
Your children should not sniffle in restaurants. (try a Kleenex!)

C-All dogs must be on leashes when going for a walk
No cell phones are allowed in movie theaters
You cannot park on the white line or crooked in parking spaces

We talked about the Firefighter Families Fundraiser in Frisco. Here is the website for the info. www.343memorialclimb.com

Tonight look for Johhny B at the Roughriders game. He will be outside the gates with prizes between 5-7pm. It is game 2 of the Texas League Playoffs.

Tomorrow night we will both be at the Tailgate Party at McKinney High from 5-7pm.
I am sure we will be fighting over the last Chick-Fil-A sandwich.

Have a great night. Enjoy the Colts Saints NFL game tonight. I say Colts win it by 3 points.

Carrie
